Dog Owners, Please Take Note

The Town has received a number of complaints from Cornell residents regarding a high number of dogs being off-leash in the parks within the Cornell Subdivision. Town by-laws require that:

1.       Dogs be kept under control and restrained by a leash that is no longer than two (2) meters in length at all times when the dog is off the property of the owner;.

2.       All dogs within the Town be licensed, with licenses available at various veterinarians across the Town and at the Civic Centre;

3.       All owners/ handlers pick-up (poop’n scoop) after their dog; and,

4.       No dog shall be allowed within five (5) meters of a splash pad, play structure, wading pool.

To address the complaints, enforcement staff will be attending to all of the Cornell Parks on a regular basis over the next few weeks to ensure compliance with the leash By-law and other municipal regulations. Regular patrol will then follow for the balance of the summer.

The objective is to make our Parks and Open Spaces enjoyable and safe for all to use.

If you want to have a Leash Free Park, please contact me so we can start the process.  The permission for a Leash-Free park has been put in place since 2007, but so far, nobody has come forward to start one.
