(Update April 2008) - Site Plan Ready for Approval
(Updated May 2007)
There have been a lot of rumors going around about the plans that the York Region Board of Education has for the future of Markham District High School and now that the plans are begriming to come into focus, some facts are in order.
I was disappointed that the meeting that the School Board held in the spring was not better publicized. The parents of the students seemed to know about it but residents, myself included, had to find out by word of mouth. This was brought up at the meeting, and publicly, the school board apologized and promised that communications would be broader in the future. I believe he meant it.
Because there were many members of the community missing, another community meeting is to be planned before the end of June.
The general size of the footprint has been estimated, as well as the general location of the building and the playing fields, but before any specific designs are made, the Board has to decide on what programs are being emphasized, and therefore the size and shape of the classrooms.
It would be premature to hold a meeting before we know what the size of the building is needed. At that time they will call a meeting so we can discuss such things as the architecture, height of building, location of buildings and a schedule of construction.
I am creating a list of people who would be interested in attending, and if you'd like to be put on the contact list, please let me know my clicking here.
