The status of park construction in Ward 5 is as follows:
Joseph Street Gazebo: “Top” was reinstalled on Wednesday June 18, 2008 in time for the Markham Music Festival.
Grand Cornell (3 parks): The Developer is doing the work up-front and then will be paid in by the Town in the usual way. The contractor (Gateman Milloy) has been hired. Start-up meeting has been held. Contractor is preparing a schedule and organizing his crews. Construction will start soon (weather permitting). Parks should be mostly complete by the end of 2008. Some carry-over work might occur in the spring of ’09.
Update May 1, 2009 - Please click here for an update to Grand Cornell Parks
Country Glen Parkette: Developer up-front. Park under design and working drawings are being prepared. Developer will tender this parkette in the summer of 2008. Anticipated construction start in late August or early September 2008.
Update May 1, 2009 - Country Glen Parkette has been tendered by Mattamy in the Fall 2008 and we are waiting for their response on the award. I am continuing to follow-up with the landscape architect and Linda has been in contact with the developer, however they have not provided any clear intentions at this time.
Cornell Rouge Parks: Developer up-front. Two parks are under construction: Morning Dove at Cornell Rouge Blvd. and between Country Green Lane and Hikers Lane. Contractor is Rutherford Construction Ltd. Construction will be completed this summer of 2008.
Update May 1, 2009 - Cornell Rouge Parks on Albert Lewis and Morning Dove have been built last year and are completed. The developer is obligated to maintain for a period of 2 years. We anticipate taking over the park next year.
Golden Jubilee Greenway, (north of 16th): According to Metrus Developments, sodding from the bike path to homes is the responsibility of the individual builders (Beaver Brook and/or Aspen Ridge). Sodding from the curb to the bike path is the responsibility of the Region. Tree planting is the responsibility of the Town and funding is requested in the 2009 budget.
Orchardview Park in Greensborough: Park construction is completed as of the spring of 2008. Operations to assume maintenance shortly. Park begins 2 year warranty.
Mount Joy Community Park (at Miramar Dr.): Park is nearing completion. Contractor-related deficiency work is underway. Soccer fields are being repaired due to winter settlement. Pathway near future school site is being relocated by the contractor. Park to be finished this summer. Fields to be permitted in 2009.
Mount Joy Pedestrian Bridge and Park Maintenance Building: Landscape Architect to be hired in July for pedestrian bridge and walkway linkage. Anticipated tender in Fall 2008 for construction in spring 2009. Parks Maintenance building deferred due to review of maintenance requirements by Parks Operations.
Greensborough Neighborhood Park at Stalmaster and Bur Oak: Working drawings are being finalized now. Park to be tendered through Purchasing and the contractor to be hired this summer. Construction anticipated to start in Fall 2008. Some aspects likely to carry-over into the spring of 2009. Park likely to be completed by the summer of 2009.
Update July 26, 2010 This park has had some constructions problems that needed to be resolved before the contractor could continue working. He is now obtaining permits to connect the park to Town Services in order to properly drain the park. There is a meeting at the end of this week at which time we should have an estimated time of completion.
Greensborough Parkettes (north west quadrant extending from Castlemore to Solace Rd. diagonally): Landscape architect to be hired in July 2008. Design through to end of 2008. Community meeting anticipated for fall 2008. Tender in winter 2009. Anticipated construction start in spring 2009.
Greensborough Parkettes -Amos Court Park, (between Appleview and Alfred Patterson)
July 26, 2010
Amos Court Park is currently out to tender. I would suspect by the times it closes until the time a contractor is on site would take us to the beginning of September, so a Fall 2010 construction start is expected.
Greensborough Parkettes - Woodlot Park (at Castlemore and Swan Park Road)
July 26, 2010
The Woodlot park drawings are still being prepared and have not gone out to tender. I expect that it will be tendered in the next few weeks.
